Job DescriptionPosition directs and manages multiple efforts in early education settings to combat childhood obesity and improve health. The Early Childhood Health and Nutrition Director works to improve the quality of physical activity and nutrition environment in childcare centers, preschools, family and group childcare homes. This position will also seek funding opportunities to ensure sustainability and build capacity of early childhood programs related to nutrition and physical activity. This position is grant funded.
Job Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree in nutrition, physical education, public health, early or elementary education or a related field required, Masters degree preferred
  • At least 2 years experience managing children’s public health programs, early childhood or after school programs required.
  • Familiarity with evidence based nutrition and physical activity interventions in early childhood settings required.
  • Understanding of early childhood education setting requirements including Arizona Department of Health Services child care licensing regulations, USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program, Arizona early education standards
Job Skills
  • Ability to present information clearly and coherently to various audiences.
  • Well-developed computer skills including proven ability in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service, problem solving, research, and information management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to tactfully handle stressful situations, negotiate and resolve conflicts, maintain confidentiality and to respect and observe organizational protocol.
  • Ability to travel to work in a variety of locations throughout Pima County whenever required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with United Way staff at all levels, volunteers from diverse backgrounds, donors, community partners, independent contractors, parents and others.
